Wondering what to expect when visiting us?

Here are some tips for families new to our clinic:

  • Your child’s first appointment at 7 Senses will be an evaluation during which a therapist will use a combination of testing, interview, and observation to determine whether your child requires services.  If services are necessary, your therapist will make a recommendation for visit frequency and plan of care duration.  Sessions once per week is the most common recommendation.
  • You may call us to check in upon arrival and wait in your car, or come into the waiting room for check in.
  • Patients and accompanying adult must thoroughly wash hands prior to entering treatment areas.
  • We encourage you to obtain child care for siblings during evaluations to allow you and your therapist to focus fully on the child being evaluated.
  • Siblings over 12 months are not permitted in therapy sessions without permission from your therapist to limit distractions.
  • Within 7 days of your evaluation appointment, you will receive a copy of the evaluation report from your therapist.  The referring physician will also get a copy.
  • If you agree with the plan of care, your child will initiate services 1-3 weeks after your evaluation, depending upon how long your insurance company takes to give authorization for treatment.
  • You and your child may decide whether a parent participates in treatment sessions based on comfort level.  We welcome and encourage parent involvement, but if your child performs best one-on-one, your therapist will use the last 5 minutes of session to debrief and provide home program recommendations

What is included in a session?

Your child’s session time includes all of the following:

  • Direct intervention with child
  • Debriefing and parent education
  • Parent questions: We encourage you to take notes, pictures, and videos (with consent) of session activities to remind you how to implement strategies at home.  If you have more extensive questions for your therapist, we encourage you to email them or set up a check-in phone call.
